Sarah & Isaac

Sarah & Isaac

Proverbs 13:12 says, “Delayed hope makes one sick at heart, but a fulfilled longing is a tree of life.” Can you recall a time where this rang true in your life? Do you remember a longing within just weighing you down making it hard to pick yourself up and keep going? Consequently, do you remember the freeing feeling and the exhilaration and weightlessness of a longing fulfilled?

When is waiting especially hard and when is it the easiest? How are you inclined to act when your prayers continue to go unanswered?  Have you ever been tempted to take matters into your own hands to help the Lord out?

Over a period of twenty-four years, God repeated His promise to make a great nation out of Abram’s offspring, but as the years went by and still no child, Abraham and Sarah experienced all the above emotions, until finally, twenty-five years after God had first given Abram His promise, Isaac is born to Sarah. Come along with us on the twenty-five year journey. There is so much we can learn from this great couple!

  1. I’m afraid I have too often been tempted to take matters into my hands . . . and am right there even now. When God seems slow to answer a prayer or fulfill a need, we start looking around to see how we can fix the problem ourselves. When we do, we create Ishmael type problems! What a timely reminder for me to just keep Waiting on the Lord!!!!

  2. It is so easy to want what we want when we want it. That’s when we are in danger of moving things along by our own design. I’ve been there and it is so much better when I wait on the Lord. It isn’t easy but ever so worth it. Thank you for sharing this study at WJIM. It sounds like it will be a good one. Have a fabulous week.
