The story of Jacob and Rachel is said to be one of the greatest love stories in the Bible. It surely had the makings of a happily ever after story. Oh, how Jacob loved Rachel. He loved her so much so that he was willing to serve her father seven years for her. Those wages surpassed the usual bride price. And let’s not forget that Jacob served an additional seven years for his bride. Not only was he willing to pay above and beyond for Rachel, but those seven years “seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her.” (Genesis 29:20) How great a love Jacob had for Rachel! As I was pondering that great love, I was overwhelmed by thoughts of One whose love is so much greater than Jacob’s or any other human being’s for that matter. Read these words slowly this Valentine’s Day! “How did God show his love for us? He sent His one and only Son into the world. He sent Him so we could receive life through Him.” (1 John 4:9 NIRV). If you’ve not received life through Christ, would you please stop right here and read this. We don’t want you to miss the gift that He has for you. What a great day it is to stop and ponder how great “the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1) That is truly the greatest love story written!
