What is your greatest heart’s desire as you begin 2014? If you could ask anything, taking God at His word when He says, “I am the LORD, the God of all humankind. There is, indeed, nothing too difficult for me.” (Jer 32:27). Let us all take time today to come before Him and lay down our burdens and our greatest cares and desires before God Almighty, Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or even imagine according to His great power working within us and let us be assured that all glory in His church and in Christ Jesus will be His!
(TODAY write here, or in your prayer journal, or on a piece of paper and tuck it in your Bible your deepest, greatest desires for 2014. If there was but one thing you would like to see God accomplish this year, what would it be? TODAY, let’s lay them down, giving them all over to Him, entrusting Him with all of them, and then moving on to see all He has for us in this coming year!) Let’s pray:
O Father, I bow my knees before You from Whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. How great are Your mercies! How deep Your riches and wisdom and knowledge are! How unsearchable are Your judgments! How inscrutable Your ways. No one can know Your mind totally! No one can be Your counselor! Only one thing You desire from us, for from You and through You and to You are all things.
This is the first day of the rest of my days on this earth. Each day forward may I deny myself, my wants, desires, my way, and take up my cross and set my eyes upon You and all You have for me and together may we do great things for Your kingdom and Your glory! Today, I present my body a living and breathing sacrifice to You, O Lord. May I be holy and pleasing to You. Let this be my spiritual act of worship, not done at set times of remembrance, but constantly, moment by moment. Let me no longer be conformed and molded by this world which is doomed to pass away, but instead let me be transformed by the renewing of my mind, so that I may be able to test and prove what Your holy and perfect will is for me.
May my faith never falter, my belief never fail. According to the riches of Your glory, strengthen me with Your might in my inner being, that Christ may dwell in my heart through the trust I have in Him. Help me not to think more highly of myself than I ought, but to think with sober judgment according to the measure of faith that You have assigned me. I am but one member of the body of Christ no more important than any other. Root me and ground me in Your love so that I may have the power to comprehend- along with all Your people- what is the breadth and length and depth of Your love and goodness.
Loving Father, may my life be a source of goodness and joy in my family and with my friends. Please give me the wisdom to see what is the best and the courage to pursue it with passion! Please protect me from the evil one and forgive me when I have followed his temptations and please protect those I love most from the fallout of my own selfish decisions. Please purify and cleanse me so that my life in 2014 may be lived holy, and wholly to You!
Now to You, Who is able to do immeasurably more than all I can ask or even imagine according to the power that is at work within us I lay my petitions down and pray that to You be all glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever. Amen.
