The LORD is my Shepherd;
I shall not want.
The LORD is my Shepherd. Stop for a few seconds and ponder those words. Jehovah … Yahweh … the One True God, the Creator of heaven and earth is the One who feeds, guides, and shields me. It’s mind boggling when I stop to think about it.
I shall not want. With the Lord as my Shepherd, there is nothing that I lack. The remaining verses of Psalm 23 speak to that truth. Yet so very often, I discover that I think and act as one who is lacking. And then He shows me that I desire more than the One, who is more than enough, has given me. I am reminded of these words from the psalmist: Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You. (Psalm 73:25)
Father, forgive me those times that I think that I lack. You and all that You give are more than enough. I desire that the words of the psalmist would ring true in my life. May there be nothing on this earth and in this life that I desire more than I desire You – The Shepherd who gives me all I need.
