“She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.”
“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
“….who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.”
Could you name each woman described in the Scriptures above? If you’ve been a believer for any amount of time, you’re familiar with Anna the Prophetess, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary of Bethany. This was not a quiz to test your Bible knowledge though! And there is a more important question than the title of this blog post! Do YOU want to be known as these women are known?
Recently I had the opportunity to teach on the Titus 2 woman. The first thing we learn about her is that she is reverent in behavior. Anna is our example of such a woman. I thought much about Anna before and after my preparation. I thought incessantly about how I would want to be known as Anna was and is known. Will it be said of me that I was reverent in behavior and devoted as Anna, surrendered to the will of God as Mary or worshipful as Mary of Bethany? Of all the things that we could aspire to be in any season of our lives aren’t these the more important? More than anything shouldn’t we desire to bring honor and glory to God our Father and to Jesus our Lord and Savior?
The legacy of these women and many others have been left behind for us. Some of those legacies are not as glowing as those of the women I’ve mentioned above. “But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.” or how about Job’s wife – “Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” Both good and not so good (okay we all know about the bad girls of the Bible – I’m just being nice) are depicted in the Word of God to teach us how to live lives pleasing and honoring to God. They are not just names and stories that grace the pages of a work of fiction. These were real women facing the challenges of life just as we do. Real women who made good and bad choices just as we do. Real women who have a lot to teach us. Are you ready to learn from the lives of these real women? We are and we’d love for you to join us. Save the date and join us in January. And since this is a study on the women in the Bible, there is freedom to jump in and out as your schedule permits. We’ll have more details as the time draws near! Until then, keep seeking HIM!
