We can’t think of a better way to greet you all at the beginning of the week (work week that is) than with a verse from the Word of God! ‘M and M’ Monday is all about sharing Scripture to memorize and meditate on during the week.
I can’t help but think of Jesus’ words to His disciples in John 14 as He prepared them for His departure. Jesus had told them that the Father would send them another Helper, the Holy Spirit, who, amongst other things, would bring to remembrance the words He had spoken to them. The Holy Spirit will do the same for us as we fill up with the Word.
The words of Joshua to the Israelites are worth remembering as we embark on this quest to hide His Word in our hearts. Interestingly, Joshua’s words are found right between his exhortations to the people to be strong and courageous! “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. ( Joshua 1:9)
It’s not enough just to meditate upon God’s Word. We have to “be careful to do” it. James (1:22-25) gives us the same message when he calls us to be doers not just hearers of the Word. The Lord reminds me of this often. Obedience is key, isn’t it?! Without it, our efforts to memorize and meditate are without effect. My desire, and I know yours as well, is to be transformed by the Word (Romans 12:2) and to be conformed to the image of Jesus (Romans 8:29). It’s our Father’s desire as well.
Whether you choose to memorize or just meditate on the verse of the week, we’d love for you to join us on Mondays!
